Hans & The Astrological Argument
The Astrological Argument is the title of the book that was lying under a chair on a train in 1988. Out of curiosity, I picked it up and began to read. What struck me was not belief, but coherence — the sense that astrology described patterns that could be studied, learned and tested through books and practical experience. That quiet moment marked the beginning of my path into astrology.
I am a professional astrologer with more than 35 years of practical experience, working with clients from different countries and backgrounds. I began my professional practice in 1990, after giving my first lectures on astrology at the University of Groningen. Since then, astrology has been my full-time vocation. My work is driven by a deep and lasting passion for time, patterns and meaning — and for making those patterns understandable and useful for others. That passion was sparked in a very concrete way. In the autumn of 1988, during a period of uncertainty in my personal life, I noticed a book lying on the floor of a train. The book was titled Het Astrologisch Argument (The Astrological Argument). I picked it up and began reading. What struck me was not belief, but coherence: the sense that astrology described patterns that could be tested against lived experience. That moment marked the beginning of a serious study and practice that would later become my profession. What has guided my work ever since is a commitment to clarity, accuracy and intellectual honesty. Astrology, at its best, does not simplify life — it helps people orient themselves within its complexity. How I Work My astrological foundation lies in traditional (medieval) astrology, where timing, cycles and concrete developments are central. Later, my work expanded into modern Jungian psychological astrology, which I consider essential for understanding personal experience, self-awareness and choice. By combining these two approaches, astrology becomes neither fatalistic nor abstract. It offers insight into conditions and tendencies, while leaving room for reflection, responsibility and conscious decision-making. Experience and Perspective I began making public forecasts in the late months of 1990, including accurate assessments of political leadership and geopolitical developments. Over the years, I have shared analyses and forecasts with clients, students and my inner circle, many of which proved accurate over time. At the same time, I remain clear about the limits of interpretation. Astrology itself is a precise and coherent system; interpretation is a human act. I can be wrong — sometimes I am. That awareness is not a weakness, but an essential part of responsible professional practice. Experience, long observation and restraint matter. My Consultations In consultations, I work in a structured and open way. We begin by looking back, to confirm whether the chart truly reflects your life. This allows me to verify the accuracy of my reading, and gives you the opportunity to decide whether my approach resonates and feels trustworthy. From there, we focus on the present and on how your situation is unfolding. A consultation is a dialogue: you may ask anything, and you are always free to interrupt if something does not feel right or needs clarification. Each session lasts 60 minutes, with a back-up session within 7 days. Beyond Personal Consultations In addition to private sessions, I write columns under the title The Astrological Arguments, in which I analyse people and events in the news from an astrological and historical perspective. At times, I deliberately step into the role of a medieval astrologer — in the tradition of figures such as John Dee, counsellor to Queen Elizabeth I — to examine power, authority and the condition of the times, before returning to a modern psychological viewpoint.
